Two parishioners returned from Haiti on November 1st. They were unable to reach our Sister Parish in Lori due to landslides blocking the road. They were able to meet with Fr. Romain and delivered some food. The situation there is very bad. Much aid has been delivered to some areas, but Lori has received virtually nothing. The pedestrian bridges crossing the Grande' Anse River were damaged, but some repair projects are starting.
A helicopter drop of food for 25,000 has been arranged. We don’t know yet if the food has been delivered, but at least it is now on the list to be dropped off.
A solar powered phone charger has been dropped off to Fr. Romain. He and others can now keep phones charged.
An SUV load of rice and beans were delivered to members of the parish, They carried them across the river and donkeys helped carry these suppies the rest of the way.
Arrangements have been made with a Non Profit Group already established in Haiti to have a bulldozer clear the road from MarFranc to Lori. This will have to wait until the river drops enough to let the bulldozer cross. Getting this done will be a major step in allowing residents to get back and forth. It will also allow further relief aid and supplies to be delivered.
We are starting a plan to help our brothers and sisters to restore their church and community. Since there are many needs, and no ways to easily fill these needs we are still researching costs, logistics of getting items there and ways to pay for them. Some donations have been received and are gratefully appreciated. we will publish details when they become available.
Rebuilding the church and repairing the rectory roof and furnishing school supplies are very high on the list. We are also looking into some portable lumber mills to use the blown down trees as lumber. There are many more needs that are being researched.
